Tax credits can make a real difference at tax time by lowering what you owe or increasing your refund. Follow the links provided below to learn about the credits you may be eligible to claim this tax season.

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Celebrates 50 Years
March 29, 2025 marked the 50th anniversary of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) helping low- to moderate-income workers and families get a tax break. Maine Earned Income Credit (EIC)
For tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2022, the Maine EIC is equal to 25% (50% for taxpayers with no qualifying children) of the federal earned income tax credit. Read More

Child Tax Credit (CTC) is Worth Up to $2,200 per child
The Child Tax Credit helps families with qualifying children get a tax break. You may be able to claim the credit even if you don’t normally file a tax return. Read More

Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) is Worth Up to $1,700 per child

Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC) is Worth up to $2,000 per tax return

Sales Tax Fairness Credit
Eligible Maine taxpayers may receive a refundable Sales Tax Fairness Credit (STFC) on the Maine individual income tax return whether they owe Maine income tax or not. Read More
