Volunteer Spotlight: Barbara Covey
Written by Jennifer DeJoy | Published on June 30, 2026
After retiring from her career as a physician, Barbara Covey continued her lifelong commitment to helping others through volunteer work in her community. Years ago, she first learned about Central Maine CA$H through the United Way and decided to get involved as a volunteer tax preparer.
Over the years, Barbara has found fulfillment in helping individuals and families access valuable tax credits and refunds that can make a real difference in their lives. What she appreciates most about volunteering with Central Maine CA$H is the direct impact it has on clients.
“It delivers a tangible and fairly immediate benefit,” Barbara explains.
In addition to volunteering with Central Maine CA$H, Barbara has dedicated her time to other volunteer efforts throughout the community. Her willingness to continue serving others in retirement reflects the caring spirit that makes volunteers such an important part of the CA$H Maine program.
Barbara’s story is a reminder that even small acts of service can have a lasting impact, both for the people receiving support and for the volunteers who give their time to help others succeed.
