CA$H Maine and New Ventures Maine are celebrating AmeriCorps VISTA member, Amy Scholl, during Americorps week. Amy was hired in August 2015 to assist with research and outreach and will serve a one-year term with CA$H Maine. She will be working to build the capacity of CA$H Maine statewide to assist families with the development and building of assets to help them become more financially stable.

Amy, a resident of New Sharon, a rural town in Franklin County, knows firsthand what an impact CA$H Maine has on its consumers, having used their services herself. “The free tax help I found through Western Maine CA$H was just the first step towards my future. While there, I found out about all the other resources my area offers.  I completed both the My Money Works and Career Planning classes at New Ventures Maine. Through the My Money Works class I was able to change how I thought about money.   The new skills I learned in My Money Works helped me find new ways to save money. I applied for and opened a Family Development Account to save towards a degree in social work. Between my savings and the match that Family Development Account provided, I was able to pay for a semester of school.”

Amy has a BFA in Photography from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work with a dual concentration in Organizational and Community Practice and Individuals, Families and Group Practice at the University of New England.
