Eastern Area Agency on Aging -
Eastern Area Agency on Aging has been serving seniors and their families in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, and Washington counties since 1973. With a specially trained and dedicated staff, they are able to provide seniors with a variety of options, opportunities, resources and referrals.
When an older person has a problem, large or small, one phone call to us is usually all it takes for the help to begin. And the majority of services are free of charge.
EAAA has many programs that are easily accessed by seniors.

Prescription drug assistance – DHHS offers a Maine Rx Program. For qualifying Mainers, a discount of 15-60% can be applied to the cost of MaineCare approved drugs. Give them a call at 561-4100 or toll-free at 1 (800)432-7825.
Warren Center – Hearing aids, hearing tests, and nearly any other program involving hearing or communication is available at the Warren Center.
Starkey Hearing Foundation – Having trouble affording a hearing aid? Want to find out right online if you should have one? Starkey’s mission is to provide hearing to those in need across the world. Their website gives more information on programs and how to contact them for more information.
EAAA, Penquis, and WHCA all offer programs to area seniors to help allow them to reside in their homes including (in most programs) home repair options to make the homes safer.

The HoMEworks goal is to provide a standardized, comprehensive homeownership education program to be delivered by a network of industry professionals in neutral environments throughout Maine. Buyers who have taken the home buying classes are more confident when asking questions and making decisions about homeownership and loan products. Education gives buyers the tools they need to avoid predatory lending and possible foreclosure.

Family Development Account Coalition – Matched Savings Program — FDAs
The FDA Program enables low-income families to establish savings accounts that will be used to buy a home, pay for education, or start or expand a small business. Participating families establish a savings account to be used toward their identified goal. These savings will be matched when withdrawn to purchase an approved asset. The Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community (WWC), Penquis, and WHCA are three agencies offering the program in the Eastern Maine area.
The Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community are committed to improving the economic lives of Maine women and their families. To help families save to meet their financial goals (including purchasing a home) they offer Family Development Accounts (FDA’s), or “matched savings accounts”. Washington Hancock Community Agency is a community action agency dedicated to fighting poverty and helping low-income people in Down East Maine. They offer a wide range of services including heating assistance, transportation, weatherization, small business assistance, tax preparation and more.
