Buyers who have taken the home buying classes are more confident when asking questions and making decisions about homeownership and loan products. Family Development Account Coalition – Matched Savings Program — FDAs
The FDA Program enables low-income families to establish savings accounts that will be used to buy a home, pay for education, or start or expand a small business. Participating families establish a savings account to be used toward their identified goal. The Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community (WWC), Penquis, and WHCA are three agencies offering the program in the Eastern Maine area.
The Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community are committed to improving the economic lives of Maine women and their families. To help families save to meet their financial goals (including purchasing a home) they offer Family Development Accounts (FDA’s), or “matched savings accounts”. Penquis serves Penobscot and Piscataquis counties by offering programs to individuals and families in preventing, reducing, and eliminating poverty in their lives. Washington Hancock Community Agency is a community action agency dedicated to fighting poverty and helping low-income people in Down East Maine. They offer a wide range of services including heating assistance, transportation, weatherization, small business assistance, tax preparation and more.
Every so often you get the chance to do good by everyone…. even yourself. CA$H Maine can make it happen. Volunteer as an IRS-certified Tax Preparer or as a Greeter and Asset Coach. We provide free IRS-certified training, you get a marketable skill and the priceless satisfaction of helping your neighbors who earn a low- to moderate-income. And all it takes is 3 hours a week, for at least 4 or 5 weeks during tax season. Find a coalition near you to get started as a volunteer.
